Becoming a MEG Operator
Minimum academic qualification for MEG Operator training/solo MEG acquiring:
- PhD Student, but also RA (any academic level) hired for the project.
- After discussion, now allowing MSc Students to undergo training to provide help to PostDocs/PhDs. However, like with some RAs...
- They may not be signed off as official MEG Operators.
- They won't be allowed to enter/use the MEG unsupervised.
To request initial MEG training, please email:
- chbh-help[at]contacts.bham.ac.uk with the Subject line "MEG Operator training request".
CHBH Building Induction will be required first, before placing the above email.
Anyone new to CHBH, needing swipe access etc., is required to complete the CHBH Canvas Building Induction Training.
Head over to https://canvas.bham.ac.uk/enroll/4H8YET and select "CHBH Building Induction Training".
If any issues are encountered with the above, please email chbh[at]contacts.bham.ac.uk
Once Induction training is complete, a MEG Operator training session will be arranged (as requested above), ideally for a small group of 2-3 trainees at a time.
Individual training is a possibility, but maximising Acquiring time is paramount so this option may not always be available.
A full day is now required for initial training, so be aware of that when making a request.
Once complete, (at least) three Acquiring Data sessions will need to be shadowed with an accomplished MEG Operator, who will need to be happy with the MEG knowledge learnt (by helping them out/asking them relevant questions etc).
The MEG Operator Checklist, gone over during training, will then need to be downloaded locally and filled in/digitally signed, before having the form digitally signed/dated by a shadowed MEG Operator and then finally digitally signed/dated by MEG Support.
If required, Completing the MEG Operator Checklist correctly.
The CHBH personnel database will then be updated to show "MEG Opr." as being checked, and addition to Chbh-meg-operator[at]lists.bham.ac.uk will allow receiving and sending of emails concerning the MEG.
In order to then make MEG bookings, a MEG project proposal will need to have been approved, and a Calpendo project code subsequently created to book against.
A Calpendo account will be required, as will being added to the relevant Calpendo project or projects.
To request a Calpendo account, again email chbh[at]contacts.bham.ac.uk
